before your lip blush appointment:

  • Lip blushing is a cosmetic tattoo service that creates super natural healed results similar to a lip stain - it is not to replace the use of makeup or to provide intense pigment deposit to mimic lipstick.

A minimum of two sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart is standard industry practice for this service, with healed results lasting up to 3 years.

As much as I would love to, I cannot guarantee any final result. Following your pre and aftercare and being well informed about the healing process is imperative for your best results and experience.

  • If you have had a history of cold sores and/or fever blisters EVER, you must take anti-viral medication (such as Valtrex) every day beginning 1 week before your appointment, the day of, and continue to use 1 week after.

If your lips are prone to drying/cracking, please hydrate in the days leading up to your appointment with an ointment, balm or mask. Dry, cracked lips are difficult to work with and will often result in a poor heal. You are welcome to use a gentle lip scrub in the 3 days leading up to your appointment.

It’s important to note, according to the WHO, approximately 2/3 of adults have HSV-1, the virus that causes cold sores, and may not even be aware of it. Lip blushing can activate this virus & cause an outbreak. Lysine, an amino acid supplement available over the counter, has been shown to help prevent outbreak & may be taken in the days leading up to your appointment.

  • • Refrain from all medications that cause thinning of the blood at least 72 hours before your appointment. This includes but is not limited to: Aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Niacin, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, omega-3 supplements & Ibuprofen. Please consult your physician before stopping any medication.

    • Do not consume coffee or energy drinks 48 hours before your appointment.

    • Refrain from alcohol consumption 48 hours before your appointment.

    • Refrain from suntanning, microdermabrasion, dermaplanning, laser treatment & chemical peels 7-10 days before receiving a cosmetic tattoo.

    • Please take good care of the skin on your lips leading up to your appointment. Cracked, dry lips are nearly impossible to properly tattoo & arriving in that condition may result in poor retention or a rescheduling of your appointment. Keep your lips well hydrated with a conditioning balm for the week leading up to your appointment & gently exfoliate your lips the night before your session.

    • Discontinue Retin-A, Chemical & Laser Peels, Microdermabrasions, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), & any chemical exfoliant or "brightening" skincare at least 6 weeks prior.

    • Do not work out 48 hours before procedure.

    • If you have an iron deficiency, iron supplements must be taken consistently for at least 6 weeks prior to an appointment. Continued usage after your tattoo is recommended. Low iron levels will affect both retention & longevity of microbladed brows as your body will absorb the pigment more rapidly.

    • If you are planning a vacation, I do recommend you plan your trip a minimum of 14 days before or after the procedure & be very mindful of sun exposure.

    • If you have been diagnosed with cancer or any extreme illnesses in the past, it is required for you to have been in remission for a minimum of 1 year & to have a signed note by a licensed physician in order to receive any cosmetic tattoo. The safety of my clients is my first priority.

Please note that sensitivity is heightened during menstrual cycles.

day of your lip blush appointment:

  • Please ensure you come to the appointment hydrated & fed to ensure you're in a state of comfort for the process.

Make sure your lip skin is smooth & hydrated to ensure an easy procedure.

Be aware that you will be laying down for long periods of time. You’re also welcome to bring headphones if you wish to zone out during the process as we will not be chatting while I tattoo your lips.

  • If you have ever had a cold sore in your life it is imperative to start taking prescription medication a week before your tattoo session to avoid an inevitable outbreak.

In order to avoid excessive bleeding & poor colour deposit: DO NOT coffee, caffeine or alcohol 48 HOURS PRIOR. DO NOT take aspirin, ibuprofen or blood thinners of any kind.

after your lip blush appointment:

Taking care of your new tattoo is absolutely VITAL to the longevity of each installation. Protect your investment and follow aftercare instructions thoroughly. Keep touching to a minimum and always use clean hands before touching the lip area.

  • This is a tattoo on your face & an open wound.

Redness, irritation, inflammation & soreness is all to be expected.

Please be mindful to follow all the aftercare instructions provided to ensure a smooth healing process.

  • Lips will be swollen, possibly red & a bit tender. You may mitigate the swelling by using a clean, cold compress for 10 minute intervals.

Do not touch your lips without washing your hands first.

Avoid any salty, oily, spicy & citrus food as your skin is open & these can irritate the lip tissue.

Use only the products provided & otherwise keep the area clean.

You may sleep slightly elevated to help relieve swelling. A clean pillowcase is recommended for sanitation & if possible, avoid sleeping directly on your face.

Please keep your lips consistently moisturized.

It is not uncommon to notice visual changes to your lip tattoo within the first 24-48 hours of your tattoo as the healing process starts almost immediately. You’ll notice increased intensity of the lip pigment color as it oxidizes and potential asymmetry or unevenness as your skin begins to heal.

This is normal - your skin regenerates at different rates during the healing process, please give your body grace and patience as your tattoo heals.

  • Apply the lip butter included in your aftercare kit a few times a day for the next two weeks. Use sparingly - keep them hydrated but not too wet. Always use a fresh applicator brush or clean hands when touching your lips.

During this time, your lips may feel slightly textured and appear dark in color. It is also normal to notice unevenness in color or the shape of your lip tattoo as your skin regenerates. This is absolutely normal. Please be patient with your healing skin as it regenerates at different rates.

Do not pick at or bite any scabs that form while your lips are healing. Doing so will remove the tattooed lip color. Let the scabs fall off naturally.

Expect a day of shedding your lip skin around day 3 or 4 (though exact timing varies with each individual) - this is normal.

When the scabs and flakes have naturally come off, the lip skin underneath may look very light. Don’t panic, this is a normal part of the skin regeneration process. Your tattooed color will gradually reappear to reveal a super natural, ‘blushed’ result, similar to a natural lip tint.

The healed color will be roughly 50% lighter than the initial result.

Avoid soaking your lips for 10 days, when showering, brushing teeth, etc. put ointment on the area to protect your lips from the water.

Do not apply makeup or skin care products directly on or around the area.

Avoid any salty, oily, spicy & citrus food for the first few days.

Do not touch your lips without washing your hands first.

No smoking for 10 days after your appointment.

Do not kiss or rub lips while your lips are actively healing.

Be mindful to not excessively wipe or lick your lips when eating.

Try to sleep on your back elevated for the first night to avoid swelling & use a new pillow case (if possible satin material)

 to support sanitation.

Avoid swimming for at least 2 weeks to help avoid an infection.

Do not whiten teeth for at least 2 weeks following your tattoo.

Do not expose your healing lips to direct sunlight or tanning beds for 4 weeks as this can alter the colour of the pigment on your lips.

After 10 days, you can wear lip makeup but make sure the product is new to avoid cross contamination.

Do not get any facials, Botox or fillers for at least 4 weeks after the appointment.

Do not use any soaps or creams on your lips for 10 days.

Drink liquids through a straw as much as possible for one week following the procedure.

Avoid stretching the lips too much, cut food into tiny pieces if needed.

  • Your cosmetic tattoo is an investment & will require continued care. Think: low maintenance, not no maintenance ☻

Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, you may apply sunscreen on the treated area. It’s never a bad idea to wear large sunglasses & a hat for further protection.

Please note that those with iron deficiency may process the pigment more rapidly. Potentially effecting the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo and requiring more frequent touch ups.

Rinse & dry the area thoroughly when in contact with chlorine.

Microdermabrasion, glycolic acid & chemical facial peel products must be kept away from the tattooed area as continued use can lighten the pigment.

If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform the laser technician. Laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolor the tattooed area.

When getting any procedures done to your face, please let the individual performing the service know about your microbladed brows and continue at your own discretion. I am not responsible for any changes made to your brows in its reaction to any additional services you may receive.

No anti-aging products or facial products containing Alpha Hydroxyls (AHAs), Retin-A, should not be applied directly to the tattooed area. Please consider using a small barrier around the tattooed area. Continued use could lighten pigment prematurely.

Please note that having an MRI can alter the appearance of the tattoo pigment. If you are planning to have an MRI please notify your technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo.
